25 Hours of Thunderhill
The 25 hours of Thunderhill is a very demanding and physical race. TC Motorsports team who Andrew Caddell was driving for finished 2nd in class and 7th overall. TC Motorsports had a very heated battle with Team PDQ Honda all the way up until the 22 hour mark, and then they decided to back off and just make it to the end.
The TC Motorsports team seemed pleased with the job he did in practice and qualifying. Andrew had his 1st race stint start at around 5:00pm, driving most of his stint in the dark, he had to adapt quickly to running in the dark as he had never done so. He ran his first half of the stint and pulled in for a fuel stop at around 6:45. They filled up with fuel and put a fresh RF tire on and Andrew was sent on his way to finish up his first stint. The second half of the stint saw nothing much happen and Andrew brought the TC Motorsports car into the pits at around 7:30. Andrew got out of the car with a 3 lap lead but with the driver change the lead went down to a lap. An hour later saw the team have to bring in the car because it was too loud. After that the team lost the lead and was down 2 laps to the PDQ car.
At around 4:00 in the morning Andrew got back in the car to do his second stint. When he went out the team preached Brake and Fuel conservation to him on the radio. Andrew went out and turned some very consistent times but was about 2 seconds off his earlier pace as he was saving the car.
The first half of the stint went without a hitch until a full course caution came out for a car sitting on the side of the track. It bought the team some fuel mileage and Andrew after the green came out went on a tear as he could see the PDQ car 5 cars in front of him. He caught and passed him and then pulled out little by little until the car sputtered right before the pits so he pulled in for a fuel stop and a RF tire change.
Andrew went back out for his second half of the stint and it went without a hitch until the lap the were coming in for a pit stop when a big accident happened right in front of Andrew, seeing a Factory Five Cobra and a Mazda Miata flipping in turn five. Andrew then was into fuel conservation under caution as the car was very low on fuel and they could not pit under a yellow flag. The track went green 2 laps later and Andrew brought in the TC Motorsports car in for a driver change and fuel.
After Andrew got out the team stayed on pace but couldn't catch the PDQ Honda and had to settle for second.
The race was very fun and it couldn't have been possible without Pinnacle Mazda. They helped out so much to get Andrew there and without them he wouldn't have been there. Andrew would also like to thank TC Motorsports because if it was not for them Andrew wouldn't have been driving down there for anybody.
